S-2 Honored as 2024 Top Woman-Owned Business in Transportation
Plover, Wisconsin — Sept. 9, 2024 — S-2 was recently selected as a 2024 recipient of “Top Woman-Owned Businesses in Transportation” by the Women In Trucking Association (WIT) official magazine, Redefining the Road.
The distinction is provided to transportation companies based on business success, including accomplishments in gender diversity, according to WIT. Candidates were selected based on majority woman ownership, financial stability and growth, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit. All nominated companies had at least $5 million in gross annual sales.
“These 15 companies exemplify outstanding business practices and innovation and are led by female pioneers in this industry,” Jennifer Hedrick, president and CEO of WIT, said in a press release.
S-2 Founder and CEO, Jennifer Mead, was recognized by WIT as a top woman to watch in transportation in recent years and the company has been recognized multiple times as a Top Woman-Owned Company in Transportation—including 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020. Mead is proud to see the entire organization recognized again for its consistency in growth, financial stability and commitment to diversity. S-2 is transparent about its workplace diversity, including that women make up over 70% of its team.
“S-2 is proud to support women in transportation. Our industry has come a long way over the past 30 years and we are committed to building a business, and industry, which provides opportunity for all employees, and is open to gender diversity,” Mead said. “Our organization is fortunate to employ incredible individuals who are hard-working and talented. We are excited not only to be a woman-owned business, but a business powered by many women who are committed to exceptional service.”
WIT will honor recipients at a special program during the Women in Trucking Accelerate! Conference & Expo in Dallas from Nov. 10-13.
The distinction underscores the critical impact of woman-owned business on the economy, WIT said. Brian Everett, group publisher and editorial director of Redefining the Road magazine, highlighted the fact that the nearly 14 million women-owned businesses in the U.S. generate about $2.7 trillion in annual revenue and comprise nearly 40% of small businesses.
“These businesses are thriving due to the entrepreneurial strengths and skill sets of these driven women owners,” Everett said.
